Since Ed's not able to help me right now, we spent a li'l bit more on a smaller roll of fence that I can lift by myself. I was able to get another section done!

I haven't been able to get out as much as I would like this fall, but this afternoon Buffy & I went for a short canicross together, toodling happily along, enjoying the fading fall colors, until...squirrel! 🤣 Fortunately, I'm pretty steady on my feet, so she didn't drag me into the swamp with her. 🤣 

I still can't believe that I didn't trip, didn't drop my phone, and somehow managed to get a shot of it!

The seeds from the Pokeweed plants that I am diligently trying to remove, but obviously I haven't gotten them all. They're invasive and so pervasive, it's exhausting. But, they do make a pretty purple dye!

Bubba's Backyard Ultra 2024

Ed retired from backyard ultras after last year's Bubba's Backyard Ultra, but there was no way he was gonna miss being there today for the start! (His arm is in a sling because he's recovering from shoulder surgery.) The trail is in great condition, and the weather is darn near perfect. We took a walk around the course so that we could cheer on the runners, who were definitely happy to see him! It was great to visit and hear what everyone's been up to over the past year.

It'll be interesting to see how this year's race plays out. Only one of the key players who have lasted until the top 5 in the last few years is back for more, and she looks awesome! We have a couple of other favorites, but you just never know what's gonna happen in the backyard. There may be a dark horse who could win it. Every step counts! We'll be watching updates online with bated breath and might sneak up again tomorrow.

He can't activate the muscles in his shoulder yet, but in order to keep them from seizing up completely, the physical therapist has him taking his arm out of the sling, letting it hang, and gently rocking his body back and forth and side to side so that the arm swings. He says it doesn't hurt, which is amazing considering he's in almost constant pain since the surgery. This is not going to be a quick and easy recovery.

Today the physical therapist removed his dressings and taught him a few exercises he needs to do. He's in a lot of pain. I hate it

Not only were the tendons torn completely from his shoulder, but also the bicep muscle. No wonder it hurt so much! 

George agrees with me. We need baby goats! 

Yesterday the boys came to help us build fence...

We got a lot done, which was awesome! And we really did have fun...

Be a Hero 5k

Who decides to run a race for their 3rd run since foot surgery? I do! 🤣 Actually, Ed insisted that I would regret missing out since I had been looking forward to the scenery. He was right. So, whether or not I was ready, this morning, Buffy and I hooked up and lined up at the start line of the Be A Hero 5k at the Castle in the Clouds. We had a great adventure with a lot of other fun dog lovers! We were all taking turns posing for photos and not worrying at all about how long it was taking us to get around the course, which was very hilly and challenging. Although I guess my crew did start to worry since he sent me a text asking if we'd gotten lost! 🤣 Finally, we crossed the finish line, where we enjoyed a live band and yummy brews. Apple cider donuts on the way home were the perfect finishing touch!

I found a new type of oxalis at our local greenhouse! It was mixed in with a bunch of other random plants. Look at all those bright, happy li'l flowers!

We haven't been able to run together since last Halloween. It was wicked hard, but felt so good to get back out there this morning! 

There was no reason to make something as bad as Bacon & Whiskey Banana Bread this morning, but since I had the ingredients, I thought, "Why not?" Well, it's decadent & delicious!
