Wild Camping

Last night we slept in the most remote place I've ever been. Hundreds of miles from civilization, at the top of a mountain pass, in a turnout on the side of the road. It was wonderful. It was so perfectly quiet, except for a ruffed grouse drumming, because, of course, it was still light out when we parked just before midnight! We woke up to an incredible view. This journey is turning into the greatest adventure of my life!

Stewart-Cassier Highway

Driving the Stewart-Cassier Highway North was quite an adventure! It runs from Kitwanga, British Columbia, to Upper Liard, Yukon, without going through any major towns. There are only little villages where you can get gas and maybe a bite to eat. And there's no sniveling about the prices! You have no other options. If you want to survive, well, it is what it is. It is a sportsman's dream out there. Nothing but wilderness!

Alberta, Canada

Driving through Alberta has not disappointed. Every turn reveals another beautiful vista! We do have an agenda, so we're trying not to stop too much, but...
And for those keeping track - Ed got his run in! He went up the mountain a couple of miles and back down again, while I sat at the lake soaking it all in. Then, a sun dog appeared around the sun! It doesn't get much better!

Travel Day

Good night, Montana. I'm glad I finally got to visit! I'll be back when I have more time to explore...

This is the 2nd year in a row that I've been traveling on what would've been Dad's birthday. It seems appropriate given his love of road trips! Happy birthday, Dad. ❤️

We took a break in Fargo, North Dakota, so that Ed could stretch his legs. He ran along the Red River Trail. Parts of the trail were flooded, but he was able to run along the top of the levee in those areas. I had to climb it so that I could get a picture. Whew! That was steep. It's a beautiful evening, though, so it was worth it!

Free overnight RV parking! And a decent burger at 9pm. We'll take it! Sleeping in Rockford, Illinois tonight. I gotta say, that was a long haul.

Here we go! It's been a while, but we're finally off on another adventure. Where will we end up? If you know, don't say. We'll post clues along the way. This is gonna be a helluva ride!

We don't get very many of these absolutely perfectly hot and DRY days here in New England, so I'm taking full abscesses of it. The laundry is drying while I'm hanging it up!

5 months later...

I took the plastic bags off a couple of months ago when the stems no longer pulled out of the soil because the roots had taken hold, and forgot to post about it. Oops! Anyway, they're covered in buds and ready for transplanting. I'm pleased with how well they've done!

Eek!

Houston is soooo proud of himself. The dogs are leaving puddles of drool on the floor that I just cleaned, and they're trapped 'cause he won't let them walk past his treasure! 🤣 Never a dull moment! I guess I'll just wash that floor again...

Happy Mother's Day

What a whirlwind of a weekend! After an early trip to Standish to work on the house cleanup, we surprised Ed's mom with dinner & a movie Saturday afternoon -  we laughed, we cheered, and we cried. It was a great show!

Nate has wanted to show Ed where Devil's Den is for ages, so we went for a hike on North Mountain. Of course, Ed has no more interest in going inside a cave than I do, but we're always up for a hike! We couldn't figure out why the ravens were making such a ruckus, until we continued back down the trail under the cliffs - their nest is on the other side!

I also made sure to squeeze in a quick visit to the cemetery to plant dahlias for Mom. I'm glad I can still do this one little thing for her.

Ahhh...

Relaxing around the campfire sure feels good after a crazy busy day!

When your food is this colorful...

This is such a simple, nutritious, and delicious meal - coat everything in olive oil and spices, then roasted at 400 degrees. It doesn't get much better than that!

This is turning into an antique auto blog...

Just kidding! 🤣
But, I can't resist photographing them, even if it's in the middle of the night. This one is a li'l rough and the edges, which I like!

"But, Mom!"

"I don't wanna share the couch with him." Poor Buffy was not happy that George jumped up on the loveseat with her last night!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

This morning, I dragged Ed down to Carver, MA, for the New England Bantam Club's spring show.

It was neat to see all the fancy birds, and it was especially cool to watch the Serama judging. I've never seen that before! The owner/handler sets the li'l bird on a table in front of the judge and then does whatever they need to in order to encourage the bird to strut its stuff and show off its feathers and form. It was fun to watch!

Afterward, we found a local Mexican restaurant and celebrated Cinco de Mayo properly. The food was delish!

Car Wash

I'm not sure why they use all the bright, flashing lights, but it is entertaining, I guess. I get claustrophobic, so I only go to places that are staffed. I actually did get stuck in a car wash once, so it's a valid concern!
