When he can't make it home...

Whenever he heads out for his long run, I insist that he turn on his beacon so that I can follow along. Occasionally, that blue dot will stop moving. Today was one of those days, so I loaded up the dogs and headed out to pick him up off the side of the road. He could barely lift his left leg into the car because the psoas muscle had seized up. It sucks to see him in pain!

Pansies

Today we bought and planted pretty li'l pansies! Yes, it's too early. No, I'm not sorry. The weather has been so unsettled lately, and I'm more than ready for some colorful flowers! (I can bring them in if it's too cold overnight, anyway.)

Emu Egg

 

25 years ago I worked with a guy who raised emus. Being a poultry fancier myself, I was fascinated, and asked him lots of questions. He had a neighbor who would blow the insides out of the eggs, and then paint the shells. He brought me one of them, and it has been a treasure possession ever since, although I've never put it on display because there were always kids in my household. Well, now that we're 'empty nesters', I finally have it out on a shelf! I think it's quite prophetic that it has a log cabin on it. What are the chances? 

Finally, a diagnosis!

Look! It's not all in my head! There are bone fragments to the left and on the top of the big toe joint. I had to go to a different doctor to finally have someone listen to me! Now we know why it hurts so much(for over a year now!) and fix it. 

Groceries!

 

Buffy and George get as excited to hear that word as they do, "Squirrel!" They know that whoever is loading our car will bring them a treat! They're too shy to reach out for them, but the clerks don't mind. 

Rude

Houston has been a terror the last few days. This is his latest victim. And no. There is no remorse on that face.

I have a feeling he's even more frustrated by this change of weather than we are! He was enjoying going outside and soaking in the warm sunshine last week. There's none of that now. I guess it's a good thing that I bought a new packet of cat grass seed.

New Visors

I bought this sun shade for my car because the original car visor is too big and limits my visibility. The best part though, is that it came with a blue-light filter. This thing is a game changer when it comes to driving at night! The headlights of oncoming cars no longer hurt my eyes. It's wonderful, and I immediately notice if I forget to flip it down. 

It's been a while...

...but I've been feeling the itch to stitch lately! The thing is though, I have to use a lighted magnifier and 'readers' now. Huh. Times, they are a changin'!

The feeders are busy today!

Because Dads care.

After Mom passed, I spent a lot of time traveling up and down the highway to visit Dad. It made him nervous thinking of me alone on the road. I insisted that it was fine, but he gave me this piece of pipe to keep handy, just in case. He's passed now, but I still keep it handy. Every time I see it, I can feel his hand on my shoulder, reminding me to be cautious and aware of my surroundings. 

Wicked Windy

It blew such a gale that it blew the cover off the grill! It made me giggle because it looked like it had stripped. 😉

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The promise of corned beef (in the form of pizza, of course!) got them to come down to help us put up the fence for my chicken coop. Reuben Pizza is Thousand Island dressing + saurkraut + corned beef + cheese + homemade crust = surprisingly delicious pizza! 

The first bloom of spring...

When you raise a plant for its colorful foliage, and then it blooms and the flowers are absolutely adorable...

I asked him if he'd like to come in for the evening as I was going to work. He blinked at me, put his head back down and went to sleep...

3 Amigos

Houston is completely unaware that he's not a dog. He figures if they're doing tricks and getting treats, well he should too! We won't tell him any different if you won't.

We made it through the winter on one tank!

Granted it was a mild one, but since this was our first full winter here, we weren't sure how much propane we would use. We're happy to discover how efficient our li'l cabin is!

Precious Memory

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that!

The other day I accidentally knocked off a flower bud on one of my hibiscus plants. I was bummed because they're rare in the winter. It fell down into the pot, and I forgot about it. When I happened to walk by it today, I noticed that it actually bloomed anyway! 

I'm so glad I hung out laundry today...

Whenever I make myself a tuna sandwich...

...I have to share! The dogs will each get a bowl with a third of it, and Houston gets to clean out the can. As soon as they hear me open a can, they all come running full tilt now! And oh, the disappointment if it's beans.

"Mom. I think we should talk about this."

"Nope. Sorry, Buffy. It's time for your rabies vaccine booster! Suck it up buttercup!" (She actually didn't even react to the li'l pinch of the shot, and loved all the attention from the vet and nurses.)
